In our pursuit of European-style glamour spots, we asked a friend of the house, Maximilian zu Stolberg-Stolberg.

Maximilian is sharing his all-time favorite location, a hidden gem in Tuscany: the infamous Il Pellicano hotel. He reminisces about his memories while stubbing out his cigarette in an Il Pellicano ashtray.

In 1950, American socialite Patsy Daszel and British aviator Michael Graham created a romantic hideaway, Il Pellicano, in a secret cove in Tuscany. Glamorous friends gathered to party by the azure sea and moonlight. In 1979, Roberto Sciò bought the hotel, struck by its beauty. Restaurants are at the forefront of a retail real estate revival. After facing hardships during the pandemic, retail properties are now experiencing lower vacancy rates and increased leasing interest, resulting in record-high rents. This turnaround is largely driven by the rise in dining out, with 2024 set to be the most successful year for the U.S. restaurant industry.

Predicted restaurant and dining spending is over $1.1 trillion, a 5.4% increase from last year and 28% more than pre-pandemic levels. Last year, restaurants represented 19% of all retail leases, the greatest percentage for any category since records started in 2007.
